Are you looking for a Data Protection Book? There are many countries that have privacy, data protection and security laws. It can be very confusing to find all of them and compare them. All the relevant information is not available on the Internet.Getting a global accurate view is hard. A book or handbook can be very useful to achieve this. But which book is best? Are they up-to-date?
The Best Data Protection Book
In our view, the best book is called The Global Privacy and Security Law Reference by Françoise Gilbert. It analyses the privacy and data protection laws, usages, and trends of 66 countries on all continents. In the interests of full disclosure, we have been writing the chapter for South Africa on the POPI Act since 2009. But we do not get any benefit for promoting it. Becuase each country follows the same format you can quickly compare different jurisdictions.
It is also updated often to ensure that it remains up-to-date. The law and situation changes all the time and therefore the book needs to change constantly. Being a lever arch book, page can easily be removed and replaced. One shortcoming of the book is that it covers very few African countries. It will also have to be updated to deal with the GDPR.
You can order the hardcopy version from the book’s website and also get an electronic copy by enquiring with us.
