Consumer Protection Act postponed

//Consumer Protection Act postponed

On 23 September 2010 the Minister of Trade and Industry officially postponed the general effective date (the date that the Act will come into effect) of the Consumer Protection Act from 24 October 2010 to 31 March 2011. This was the last opportunity for the Minister to announce the postponement, and the Act cannot be postponed any further.

The reason for the delay was citied as ”… additional time is required for adequate preparation of the administrative systems necessary to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of that provision.”

This postponement will give business (and government) six more months to ensure that they are compliant with the Act. We suggest that all organisations use this opportunity wisely and ensure that they fully aware of what the Act will entail and make the necessary changes to ensure compliance.
