Now that POPIA is here, many people are searching for a manual or guide that they can use to implement the necessary controls or take the necessary action to comply with POPIA.

A legal textbook isn’t going to help you, and neither is the actual final text of POPIA itself. You need something practical, something that will empower you to do it yourself. There are multiple GDPR compliance checklists but not really any POPI compliance checklists. A POPI compliance manual isn’t a POPIA compliance framework, which is something different.

POPIA compliance manual or guide

POPIA does not require a manual as PAIA does

Some people look for a POPIA manual, thinking POPIA requires every organisation to have one, just as PAIA requires organisations to have a PAIA manual. The good news is that POPIA does not require you to have a POPI manual, POPIA probably means you need a privacy policy, but not a manual. You shouldn’t have one all-encompassing PAIA and POPI Manual – they are two different subjects that need to be dealt with separately.
