Workshop | POPIA Training Live – The Essentials | Online
11th March 2026 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
| R972It’s time for the greatest POPIA gameshow of all time. The Protection of Personal Information Act (also known as POPI or POPI Act) is South Africa’s data protection law. Sure, you could read the whole law, but there is a more fun way to learn about it. Forget long legal texts and dull training. This is POPIA with a twist: a live, interactive game show where you learn, laugh, and compete for bragging rights.
If you’re new to POPIA, welcome! This awareness training is for you.
Join a highly interactive session where we unpack the key essentials of the POPI Act to help your organisation get started on its journey to compliance.
POPIA primarily affects data-driven organisations, such as financial services, healthcare and insurance, but also impacts other organisations, including manufacturers, retailers and non-profit organisations. If your organisation processes personal information, we’ll help you become more aware of what POPIA is all about so you can comply with POPIA to avoid significant consequences.
Join our workshop, have some fun, learn a thing or two and play to win.
Bragging rights are up for grabs.

Who should join the game
This POPIA training is perfect for everyone new to the POPIA topic.
- It is for all employees who process personal information and know little about POPIA.
- It is also for managers, leaders, and decision-makers who plan and implement controls to protect personal data. It includes marketing managers, compliance officers, IT managers and IT operators, IT security officers and IT governance officers, HR and payroll managers, or auditors.
- It might also be the legal adviser, compliance officer, information officer or data protection officer if they are new to the role.
A good way for Information Officers to fulfil their responsibility is to conduct internal awareness sessions
This is also a good way to raise the general awareness of your employees. One of the core responsibilities of the Information Officer is to ensure that internal awareness sessions are conducted regarding POPIA, the POPIA regulations, codes of conduct, or information obtained from the Regulator (POPIA Regulation 4(1)(e)). To fulfil this responsibility, the Information Officer can ask all employees to attend this public training or hold a private version of this training just for their employees. You can explore all the options for data protection training.
Your host
John Giles is usually the quiz master and host. He has presented on POPIA to thousands of people for many years, learning how to explain it simply and cover the essential topics that people need to know. This time, he’s turning compliance into a contest.
