Life in the digital realm is like navigating the ocean. Data protection, privacy and access to information are some of the intricate rocks and sea monsters of compliance that you must tackle to stay afloat. And your information officer is like the lighthouse guiding you to shore.

On 14 February, we’ll be adding a little value to your Valentines Day by hosting a webinar on a topic we think you’ll love, and helping your compliance to be a little less Titanic and a little more Pacific Princess

Our goal is to help save you time, money and stress by talking about how to fill the gaps in your capacity, to streamline your compliance efforts. Chief amongst these is the question: when is it time to outsource your information officer? Just to be clear, we aren’t suggesting you outsource your information officer’s authority. Rather, we’re considering when you might want to outsource part or all of their responsibility, freeing up more time for you to make more progress with your organisation.

You cannot appoint a person outside your organisation as the registered designated information officer but you can outsource some of the responsibilities to an external service provider.

Working together often yields the best results, but maybe that doesn’t quite fit your plans. We will discuss three approaches you can take depending on your organisation.

  1. Outsourcing a service entirely.
  2. Hiring a generalist in-house and outsourcing niche services.
  3. Hiring a specialist in-house and giving them all the tools they need to do the job, like one of our programmes.

Let’s explore each of these options in turn, as well as the benefits of outsourcing privacy and data protection compliance.  These can include cost savings, improved efficiency and flexibility.

All organisations should have a default information officer who is registered with the Information Regulator and who is accountable and responsible for data protection compliance within their organisation. If you are this person, you should attend this webinar.

So put on your captain’s hat and the Love Boat theme song, and let’s make your life a whole lot easier.

Outcomes

  1. Understanding the difference between your information officer’s authority, and their responsibility.
  2. Knowing when to seek help by acknowledging your available resources.
  3. Streamline your compliance efforts by knowing what in-sourcing or out-sourcing approach suits your organisation best.
