Webinar | Cybersecurity for Information Officers
4 March @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
| R742This webinar is a practical guide to cybersecurity for Information Officers (IOs). The IO has 21 responsibilities, and one of those is to ensure that their organisation secures the integrity and confidentiality of personal information in its possession or under its control by taking appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures. Sure, in most organisations, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is responsible for cybersecurity. But for the IO to support the CISO and fulfil their responsibilities, the IO needs to understand cybersecurity. Often, the CISO doesn’t know the law (or regulatory requirement), the IO does. Or should.
That’s the purpose of this webinar – to give an IO a beginner’s guide to how the law requires an organisation to secure information or cyberspace. You can’t be an IO and not know the basics about cyberscruity. The responsibility for implementing organisational measures often falls on the IO. The IO and CISO must work together to secure the organisation, comply with regulations, and manage legal risk.
This webinar bridges the gap between the IO and the CISO.
This session is designed to help you navigate evolving legal regulations, understand cybersecurity risk management in today’s digital landscape, and prepare your organisation for emerging security challenges — including the opportunities and threats posed by AI.
Learn practical, actionable strategies to protect your most valuable asset — your data.
This short, useful webinar will prepare you to comply with various cybersecurity laws. The principles set out in relevant data protection laws and cybersecurity frameworks, such as the ISO 27000 family of standards, make it clear that securing your data assets is essential in today’s information economy. We will not give you a law lecture – we give you practical guidance and insight on what to do.
What you’ll learn
Learn which regulations require your organisation to secure the information it processes. Know the difference between a law, rule, code and standard. Where does ISO 27001 come into play? How is POPIA relevant? What about the Cybersecurity Bill? What about PSiRA, the joint standards, DORA, NIST or the King Code?
Outcomes
- Fulfil your responsibilities as an Information Officer by knowing the regulatory landscape regarding cybersecurity.
- Respond to security compromises, including reporting to the Information Regulator if necessary, by knowing the applicable regulatory framework.
- Be able work with your CISO by speaking the same language.
Panel
Your panel of experts from Michalsons.
- John Giles will be the host. He helps many organisations govern IT, address IT legal risks, and comply with IT laws, rules, codes and standards. He has presented on the topic many times.
- David Luyt will be the main presenter. David has presented hundreds of times on cybersecurity law and helps organisations comply with cybersecurity regulations.
- Mark Heyink: In addition to his law degrees, Mark holds a Higher Diploma in Company Law and qualified as a Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) in 2004 (one of the few lawyers in the world to hold this) and so shares deep expertise and experience in cybersecurity law.
You can read our insights about Cybersecurity law.
Audience
Information Officers play an essential role in society, and we want to help them do so well.
- Default Information Officers: CEOs, managing directors, and senior executives are, by law, default information officers. All organisations should have a default information officer who is registered with the Information Regulator and accountable and responsible for data protection and compliance with access to information within their organisation. If you are this person, you should attend this webinar.
- Designated or Deputy Information Officers: Anyone appointed as a designated or deputy information officer.
- Acting Information Officers: Legal, compliance or governance professionals tasked with implementing POPIA and PAIA in the organisation.
CISOs might also want to attend. In our experience, CISOs are very strong technically, but their knowledge often lags in cybersecurity regulation.
