What we use AI for
AI capabilities are improving almost daily, and we are finding innovative use cases every so often. We know that our AI use cases will evolve with time, but for now, we use AI to assist with specific tasks in our workflows.

We experiment with and use many different AI models. But evaluate each one and place it on our AI register before we use it on client work. It’s important to stay transparent about our use, so we are happy to discuss it with clients. AI does not give you legal advice. It does not make decisions on your matter, and it never operates without human direction. Our lawyers do the thinking; AI helps with the doing.
We know when not to use AI.
We believe that a combination of human and artificial intelligence produces the best outcomes for our clients. But understand that some work needs human judgement alone. Sensitive negotiations, legal strategy, and ethical decisions – we decide on each task which combination is best.
Our lawyers remain accountable
The human lawyers at Michalsons are accountable for all AI-generated content. We review and verify AI output before we rely on it or send it to you, checking every source, citation, and legal principle. Our role as experts often includes quality assurance, and this mirrors an established principle of the legal profession that attorneys are accountable and responsible for candidate attorneys and other staff.
We are accountable, not the AI.
Our AI governance programme
We do not use AI on an ad hoc basis. Our AI governance programme sets out which tools we may use, how we assess them, who may use them, and how we monitor their use. We train our people on responsible AI use and review our approach as the technology and the law evolve.
How you benefit
AI helps us work faster and focus our time on judgement, strategy, and quality. This means quicker turnaround and lower costs on your matter. We bill you for the professional time we spend on your work, including reviewing and refining AI-assisted output. We do not bill you for the time an AI tool takes to generate raw text.
