The Information Regulator has requested that the heads of all bodies submit their annual Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) reports by 30 June 2025 to demonstrate how they have been complying with PAIA. Why? Because transparency leads to accountability. The regulator is increasing transparency about how organisations are complying with PAIA, as this enables them to be held accountable for failing to comply with PAIA. Your PAIA report will be a public record, accessible to all.

Can you report to the regulator that you have been complying with PAIA over the past year?

The regulator can request that the heads of public and private bodies submit reports to them regarding requests for access to records that the body holds. For private bodies, it is referred to as a PAIA Section 83(4) report, and for public bodies, it is referred to as a PAIA Section 32 report.

The Information Regulator wants statistics because you can’t manage what you can’t measure.

If you don’t submit this report, the regulator may conduct its own initiative PAIA compliance assessment. This can result in PAIA enforcement notices from the regulator if you do not comply.

We encourage you to attend this public webinar, where we will empower you to do this important task annually. This webinar will save you time and ensure you do it right.

Outcomes
