Data Protection Champ badge
If you are part of a Michalsons data protection programme and you meet a few other requirements, you can use the Michalsons Data Protection Champ badge. You can display the badge on your website, cloud offering, app or advertising solutions.
By displaying the Data Protection Champ badge, you are indicating that your organisation is a champ.
- Champions the right to data privacy.
- Takes privacy seriously.
- Respects the privacy of data subjects.
- It is open about how they process personal information.
- Has committed to do what is reasonably practicable to protect personal information.
- It is on the Michalsons data protection programme.
Having the badge does not mean your organisation will protect personal information at all times. Personal information must flow freely for society to function. A balance between the free flow and the protection of personal information is needed. The badge is also not a POPIA or GDPR certification scheme.

Information Officer certification
Information Officers who carry the “Michalsons Information Officers certification” have been assessed and in Michalsons’ view, have demonstrated they know enough to be in a position to meet the responsibilities of an information officer. This means that they have completed the Michalsons Information Officers programme and can take action.
- Know where to start to assist an organisation with data protection practically.
- Can meet their responsibilities by knowing what their responsibilities are and having the tools to get them done.
- Can avoid the consequences of non-compliance by knowing what their role entails and what is expected of them.
- Prove that they have been trained by completing an assessment to get certified.
- They are current members of a Michalsons programme.
