The link between the governance principles in King III and the law

LJohn Gileset us quickly explore link between governance principles (IT and others) and the law (ICT laws, email laws and others).  There is always a link between good governance and compliance with the law. However, the governance principles contained in King III are not law.  King III is not a law.

Unlike the United States, the committee opted for what is called an “apply or explain” approach.  Applying the IT governance principles is therefore voluntary - you don’t have to do it.  However, if you decide not to apply them, then you should be able to explain the reasons to your stakeholders.  So, when you hear people say things like “King III means you have to do this or that“, they don’t know what they’re talking about.
