The differences between Online Legal and Michalsons Attorneys are the following:

Online Legal and Michalsons Attorneys are two totally separate entities;
Online Legal….provides services like Legal Guidance;
Michalsons Attorneys provides traditional legal services like Legal Advice;
Online Legal is not a law firm: it is owned by Lematics (Pty) Limited, a provider of online legal services (such as Online Legal and Propdox);
Michalsons Attorneys is a law firm: a partnership between Lance Michalson and John Giles.

We draw a massive distinction between “legal information”, “legal guidance” and “legal advice”. Whilst these concepts appear to be the same, they are very different.

Legal Information

This is any information on a legal issue that is made available.

Legal Guidance

Here, attorneys take the legal information and apply their knowledge, skill and expertise to a generic legal issue, thereby adding enormous value.

Our Online Legal…Guidance does not merely reproduce the latest technology law news. It produces fresh, original and helpful guidance that is applicable to a South African audience.

Our Online Legal…Guidance differs to normal legal advice in that

you do not consult with your attorney face-to-face,
the legal service is not charged for on an hourly basis and
it addresses the types of issues you sometimes would consult your attorney on, but the answers you receive are not tailored to your company (which is why it’s not strictly speaking “advice”, but “guidance”).

Many of our subscribers are wanting to find legal guidance fast (on-demand and when you need it) and for a cost effective fee. It no longer needs to be accessed exclusively by traditional face-to-face consultation with an attorney.

Legal Advice

Legal advice applies where the same legal information, skill and expertise is applied, but the difference is that it is applied to a client’s specific legal issue and translates into bespoke assistance.
