At the end of November 2009 we decided to rebrand Michalsons Online to “Online Legal…”

There were several reasons for this:

• To use a name which more accurately reflects our offering: Online Legal…Documents and Online Legal…Guidance;
• To remove the wrong perception that the content on Michalsons Online was nothing more than marketing material for Michalsons Attorneys.

Online Legal provides online legal services. Michalsons Attorneys provides traditional legal services.

Online Legal…Guidance

Our various Legal Guidance Articles help you comply with the various ICT laws in South Africa. This is important as King III has made quite a big issue of it. King III says:

• “companies must comply with all applicable laws”;
• “the board is responsible for the company’s compliance with applicable laws”;
• “when considering the company’s compliance with applicable laws, the board should ensure that IT related laws, rules, codes and standards are considered”.

Many directors feel that this is an impossible task. They are really busy and have a million things to do each day. Online Legal gives them the online legal guidance on ICT laws they require.

Many of our subscribers find that Online Legal reduces their overall legal bill, because they can often find the solution to their problem on Online Legal rather than having to involve one of the attorneys, which is always more costly.

The aim of Online Legal is to assist you educate yourself on ICT laws and facilitate your compliance with various ICT laws - thereby having the peace of mind that you are always in the know.

It is important to note that Online Legal does not merely reproduce the latest technology law news. It produces fresh, original and helpful guidance that is applicable to a South African audience.

It differs to normal legal advice in that (i) you do not consult with your attorney face-to-face, (ii) the legal service is not charged for on an hourly basis and (iii) it addresses the types of issues you sometimes would consult your attorney on, but the answers you receive are not tailored to your company (which is why it’s not strictly speaking “advice”, but “guidance”). Many of our subscribers are wanting to find legal guidance fast (on-demand and when you need it) and for a cost effective fee. It no longer needs to be accessed exclusively by traditional face-to-face consultation with an attorney.
